Municipal Freight Planning
Municipal Freight Planning
The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) is assisting municipalities to identify freight movement issues in their communities. Through this planning initiative, key freight-related issues will be summarized and recommendations stemming from this effort may be advanced through local and state initiatives and projects.
DelDOT's updated Delaware Statewide Freight Plan was approved by the U.S. DOT in December 2022. The final document and appendices are available on the DelDOT Freight page and serve as a basis for considerations for municipal freight planning effort.
The purpose of this initiative is to provide assistance to municipalities to help identify and address localized freight issues, including safety and speed management, truck routing, signage, and guidance, road and intersection geometrics, comprehensive planning, localized truck parking, curb management, freight environmental impacts, and community quality of life issues.
